Although I haven't bought anything from the
Hey, Sailor! collection from
MAC, I do already have the two pigments,
Naval Blue &
Old Gold, lurking around in my stash. Because I've had these a while, they're in the older style of packaging, so they look different to the jars in this collection even though the pigments are the same.

Firstly, there's
Naval Blue. Described by MAC as a "deep smoky blue", there's a hint of purple to this dark navy pigment. One of the more finely-milled pigments, Naval Blue has a frosty finish to it.

The second pigment with the collection comes in the form of
Old Gold, which MAC labels as being "high frosted tarnished gold". It's a very warm gold shade with a slight brown tint that gives it an almost bronze edge and it also boasts a green duochrome effect. Texture-wise, Old Gold isn't as fine as Naval Blue, but it isn't one of the more coarse pigments, like Rose, Old Gold lies somewhere in between the two textures. More metallic than Naval Blue, Old Gold is more intense when used with a damp brush.

Although these swatches were photographed with the flash on, the colours look more accurate than shots I tried to take outside in direct light. The pigments were applied on to bare skin, no primer. Naval Blue was applied dry and Old Gold was used slightly damp to get the colour to pop.
Of the two, Old Gold is easily the most unique shade due to its green flashes. Naval Blue, whilst pretty, isn't a stand-out shade, but if you don't already own a similar shadow & are looking for this colour, it's worth looking at.
